Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ben Stokes opened up about his campaign with four-time champions in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that playing under the leadership of MS Dhoni was exciting and he knew that playing in Chennai would be special. 

Ben Stokes was amongst the highest money-fetchers this year at the auction. He was acquired by the Chennai Super Kings for the whopping price of INR 16.25 crores and his presence in the squad was something that fills a sense of fairness in the opposition, considering the kind of player he is.

Ben Stokes played just two games in the league so far. He was out due to injury and now has returned home to prepare himself for England’s upcoming Test against Ireland. The all-rounder suffered a toe injury and didn’t look good with the bat in two games.

Ben Stokes opened up about his experience with Chennai Super Kings. He said that he had worked with a similar kind of staff during his stint with Rising Pune Super Giants. He said that he was glad that CSK picked him. Speaking to the franchise, he said: 

“I think everyone’s aware of CSK’s history within the IPL and for me as well I’ve worked with Fleming before and sort of the backroom staff and the coaches when my first year at the Rising Pune. So I was excited to get back and work with these guys again. I really enjoyed my time ther and obviously being with MS again was another exciting thing and Moeen being here as well. So yeah, I was really excited and very glad to be picked up by Chennai.”

CSK vs GT: “He likes to create a pretty chill environment,” Ben Stokes on MS Dhoni 

Ben Stokes also talked about MS Dhoni as a leader, saying that the keeper-batter creates a chill environment. He also opened up about playing at the Chepauk Stadium. He elaborated: 

“As I said before, you know I work with the coaching staff before so I was fully understanding of how it was going to be. And I know how MS sort of likes to work. He likes to create a pretty chill environment. Let everyone sort of do what they feel they need to prepare. I knew it was Chennai was going to be a very special place to play. Walking out with Chennai shirt on for the first time that. If you have MS in your team you know you are going to be supported like a home game, even if you play away.” 

Chennai Super Kings will now be seen in action when they will take on Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2023 on Tuesday (23rd May).
