LSG vs CSK: “The Batters Will Never Be In The Game” – Lucknow Pitch Receives Massive Backlash From Deep Dasgupta And Tom Moody

The 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen some high-scoring games, but a few pitches in the North of India, particularly in Delhi and Lucknow, have proven challenging for batsmen.

In Delhi, the new-ball bowlers found success with the movement and bounce off the surface, while in Lucknow, the pitch was turning square and keeping low, making it uncomfortable for batters. Even the pacers were able to grip the surface and use cutters and slower balls effectively, with the ball bouncing awkwardly and often reaching the keeper on the second bounce.

In contrast, the Lucknow pitch against Chennai Super Kings was made of red soil and provided a little more bounce, allowing set batters to score easily with the fast outfield. However, the pitch with black soil, similar to the one used in the second T20I against New Zealand, was once again deemed unfit for T20 cricket. Both experts and fans criticized the pitch, and the curator was at the receiving end of their criticism.

Despite some challenges posed by the pitches, the IPL has continued to provide an entertaining spectacle for fans. Teams have had to adapt their strategies to suit the conditions, with some opting for a more cautious approach while others have taken a more aggressive stance. The bowlers have also been able to shine on challenging surfaces, with many producing impressive performances throughout the tournament.

That Ground At Lucknow You Are Not Hitting A Four Or A Six: Tom Moody

Talking with ESPNCricinfo, former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta was not happy with the pitch produced for the fixture and tore into both the hosts and the curator for developing a one-side pitch at Lucknow.

“At every venue I have been at as BCCI curator, I’m sure they will be looking into it as well. The whole thing about black or red soil is fine as long as you can prepare good pitches. It does not matter what the color of the soil is if the pitch is not good.”

Agreeing with Deep Dasgupta’s opinion former SRH head coach Tom Moody had this to say about the venue and its pitch.

“Maybe they asked for this pitch and decided that maybe they could outplay a side that is heavily dependent on three batters. We don’t know that so we cann0t make that assumption.”

“We want a contest between the bat and the ball and there is not contest if there is a surface like that. You want a surface where both the batters and bowlers are in the game and today the batters were never in that game and they never will be in that game, because they cannot take advantage of that loose ball.”

“You can bowl a half tracker at any ground in the world, forget about India and you will be git for a six, that ground and pitch at Lucknow, you are not going it hit it for a four or a six.”

As the competition continues, fans will no doubt be eagerly anticipating more exciting cricket and unforgettable moments.
