Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bat first, but it turned out to be a horrible decision as Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammad Shami looked unplayable and made batters look clueless. The second essay of the game started on a similar note as Khaleel Ahmed bowled a maiden wicket to start the proceedings. He removed Wriddhiman Saha before Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav removed Shubman Gill (6), Vijay Shankar (6), and David Miller (0) respectively to reduce GT to 32/4.

But skipper Hardik Pandya held the fort for his side and smashed a gritty half-century under tough circumstances. Abhinav Manohar tried to support him but he managed just 26 runs and was out in the 18th over. DC then kept things tight but Rahul Tewatia brought his side back in the game by smashing three sixes to Anrich Nortje in the penultimate over.
With 12 runs needed off the last over, there was a twist in the tale as Ishant Sharma removed the southpaw on the 4th ball and then closed the game perfectly to win the game for his side by 5 runs. The pacer took 2 wickets and returned with the figures of 23/2.
