DC vs SRH Match Report: Mitchell Marsh And Philip Salt’s Fifties In Vain As Sunrisers Hyderabad Beat Delhi Capitals

DC vs SRH Match Report: Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Saturday (April 29), beat Delhi Capitals by 9 runs to get back to winning ways in IPL 2023. After scoring 197 for 6, the Hyderabad-based outfit managed to restrict DC to 188 for 6 despite the fifties from Philip Salt and Mitchell Marsh.

DC vs SRH Match Report: DC innings:

Delhi Capitals began their pursuit of 198 in a disastrous manner as their in-form skipper David Warner was bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a duck in the first over. However, it was not a precursor of the things to follow as Philip Salt and Mitchell Marsh not only brought the chase back on track but also put DC on the front foot.

At the end of the powerplay, DC were on 57 for 1. In the 7th over, Salt welcomed Umran Malik into the attack by smashing him for two fours and two sixes. In the tenth over, the duo completed the 100-run stand with Salt also completing his fifty off 29 balls. In the very next over, Marsh completed his fifty too.

It was one-way traffic at that stage before Mayank Markande broke the stand by dismissing Salt in the 12th over. The dismissal opened the floodgates and DC lost wickets at regular intervals to find themselves 6 down for 148 in the 17th over. SRH also managed to stem the flow of runs to gain the upper hand.

DC just lost the momentum after losing Salt and Marsh’s wicket and rarely looked in contention to chase down the big total. In the last over, they needed 26 runs and finished 9 runs short of the target.

DC vs SRH Match Report: SRH innings:

Earlier in the game, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen’s quick fifties helped Sunrisers Hyderabad pile up a big total of 197 for 6 in 20 overs after deciding to bat first. Opening the batting, Sharma kept his end safe but lost partners at regular intervals at the other end.

Mayank Agarwal (5), Rahul Tripathi (10), Aiden Markram (8), and Harry Brook (0) failed to deliver with the bat as SRH found themselves reeling at 83 for 4 in the tenth over. Mitchell Marsh was the architect of SRH’s precarious position. The Australia allrounder first dismissed Tripathi before accounting for Markram and Brook in the 10th over.

On the other end, Sharma completed his fifty off just 25 balls. However, he too could not bat his team to a position of strength and departed in the 12th over to leave SRH 5 down for 109. The left-handed batsman scored 67 off 36 balls with the help of 12 fours and a six.

But before DC could put more pressure on SRH, Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad steadied the ship and took the score past the 150-run mark. The duo added 53 runs for the sixth wicket before Marsh broke the stand by dismissing Samad for 28. Klaasen, on the other hand, remained till the end to take his team to 197. The South African smashed 53 off just 27 balls with the help of 2 fours and 4 sixes.

Brief score:

SRH 197/6 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 67; Mitchell Marsh 4-27 ) beat DC 188/6 in 20 overs (Mitchell Marsh 63; Mayank Markande 2-20) by 9 runs.
