Following the arrest of cricketers S Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan, and Ajit Chandila as well as former CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappan on suspicion of spot-fixing, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken action to combat corruption in the sport. The BCCI has now assigned a dedicated Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) official to each team to monitor players’ movements in the hotel and on the playing field.

“It wasn’t a bookie who approached Mohammed Siraj” – Reports

Mohammed Siraj, a pacer for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, reported a corrupt approach from an unknown man to India’s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU). The client had lost a large sum of money in an earlier IPL game and was looking for insider knowledge on Siraj’s team. Mohammed Siraj quickly reported the incident to ACU authorities, who are stationed at each hotel and on the field, monitoring all player movements.

“It wasn’t a bookie who approached Mohammed Siraj. It is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on matches. He had lost huge money and approached Siraj for inside information. Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement authorities have nabbed the man. More details are being awaited,” a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
