CSK vs SRH: “It Was A Bit Shocking For Me Personally” – Mayank Markande Opens Up On 2019 IPL Season With Mumbai Indians

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) would be eyeing a quick turn-around against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 21st April (Friday). SRH were blown hot and cold by Mumbai Indians (MI) when they lost the match by  14 runs. Mayank Markande couldn’t create an impact against MI. Mayank Markande so far has taken 6 wickets in 3 matches with an economy of 6.42.

SRH’s main problem is that they don’t have a strong middle order as they are too much dependent on Harry Brook and Rahul Tripathi. We witnessed how Abdul Samad (impact player) struggled at the back end of the innings as he scored 9 runs in 12 balls and was quite clueless in the death overs.

CSK on the other hand are in red-hot form after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against the run of play. CSK’s inexperienced pace attack is proving to be dangerous as the likes of Tushar Deshpande & Akash Singh held their nerve in crunch moments of the game.

I had played for India and then was sitting on the bench- Mayank Markande

Mayank Markande had an interaction with The Indian Express before the start of IPL 2023.  Markande was quite confused when he didn’t get ample opportunities for MI after playing for India against Australia in the 2019 T20I Series.

“It was a bit shocking for me personally. It was a tough phase for me. I had a great season, played for India and then was sitting on the bench and was waiting for the opportunities. It was a new experience for me. I was trying to learn as much as I could,” said Mayank Markande.

“In my mind, I was ready to do well whenever I get the chance. I have finished the season on a nice note. I didn’t get many chances as well, I am excited as well to play for the new team. I want to start afresh,” he added.

Ranji Trophy teaches you the value of patience- Mayank Markande

Mayank Markande stated that Ranji Trophy played a crucial role in his resurgence. Mayank Markande pointed out that the flat surfaces used in Ranji Trophy helped him a lot. Mayank Markande plays for his domestic team Punjab. Mayank Markande gave credit to Punjab skipper Mandeep Singh and his childhood coach Bali for supporting him in the tough phase.

“Ranji Trophy teaches you the value of patience. You get to bowl a lot on different surfaces and the most challenging are the flat ones. Being a spinner, you are bowling 30 overs in a day and it has helped me a lot,” said Mayank Markande.

“In the IPL, when I was sitting out, I used to think about where I am doing wrong, what areas I should work more. This domestic season went well, I had that confidence. I was bowling well, was in a good rhythm and I am raring to go,” he stated.

“I played everything in one year (2018-19) It was a rollercoaster but when I hit that rock bottom, I was still very young. Our domestic captain Mandeep Singh, played a big role. He gave me the same confidence, backed me up, and spoke to me regularly,” he added.

“My childhood coach Bali paji’s role was also crucial. He kept motivating me and off the field, we shared a good bond as well. He was the one who made me the leg-spinner; otherwise, I was a fast bowler till U-14. I used to send him my bowling videos, he used to analyze and send me feedback. It became a routine for the past few years,” he concluded.
