ICC World Test Championship Final: Mark Taylor Reckons That David Warner Should Be Given Two Ashes Tests And WTC Final Before Being Axed

Former Australian cricket captain Mark Taylor believes David Warner should be granted two Ashes tests and the World Test Championship final before being benched. In recent matches, Warner has struggled with form, forcing many to question his place in the national squad.

Taylor believes that Warner’s experience as a proven player in the longer format of the game should not be dismissed and that he should be given other opportunities to establish himself. However, with younger and more talented batters developing, the expectation is building on Warner to produce.

They are likely to concentrate on the top of the order, and despite his recent troubles, David Warner is anticipated to be included to the squad for both contests. The 36-year-old has been out of form recently, but selectors appear to believe in his ability and expertise. The World T20 final is set for June 7 at The Oval in London, followed by the five-Test Ashes series, which begins on June 16. It remains to be seen whether Warner can rediscover his form and assist Australia in maintaining its supremacy in these tournaments.

“It sounds like they will stick with David Warner for the WTC”- Mark Taylor

Mark Taylor, a former Australian cricket captain and current analyst for Nine Network’s Ashes coverage, believes that if David Warner is selected to play against India, he should play the first two Tests against England.

“If I am reading the tea leaves right, it sounds like they will stick with David Warner for the World Test Championship at The Oval, And if that’s the way Australia are thinking about the World Test Championship, then yes, they have to start with him for the Ashes,” Mark Taylor told AAP.

“It would be very hard to have Usman Khawaja and Warner open the batting and then change a week later for the first Test at Edgbaston,” Taylor said. “Whoever they think is our best opening combination for the World Test Championship, should do the first three Tests of the summer” Mark Taylor added.
