SA vs WI: South African Bowler Anrich Nortje Ruled Out Of The Second Test Against West Indies

South Africa was dealt a huge setback ahead of the second Test against the West Indies at the Wanderers when bowler Anrich Nortje was ruled out with an injury.

With Anrich Nortje’s unavailability, South Africa will only have three seamers for the Wanderers Test. He suffered from “moderate groin soreness” after South Africa’s victory in Centurion; no substitute has been appointed.

Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the second Test against the West Indies due to “minor groin discomfort” sustained during South Africa’s victory at Centurion. No substitute has been nominated in the squad, leaving South Africa with only three seamers: Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, and Marco Jansen, with a spinner, almost guaranteed to play at the Wanderers.

Senuran Muthusamy batted and bowled at SuperSport Park, but with Nortje ruled out, Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer will also be considered for the XI. South Africa may also consider using an additional batter in the second Test, with Ryan Rickelton being the obvious pick.

South Africa has yet to name a replacement for Anrich Nortje:

Anrich Nortje took 6/84 in South Africa’s 87-run victory in the first Test at Pretoria, including 5/36 in the first innings as his terrifying fast bowling turned the tide in the home team’s favour. As South Africa decided not to call up a substitute, one of their two available spinners—Keshav Maharaj or Simon Harmer, who was rested in the first game—is expected to make a comeback.

The Proteas may plan an additional spin option in the form of either Keshav Maharaj or Simon Harmer because the Wanderers have taken plenty of turns this season. Wiaan Mulder, a seam bowling all-rounder, might play at his home field. In order to assist his team in upsetting Western Province last week, Lions spinner Bjorn Fortuin collected a match haul of 9/129 at the Wanderers.
