Mumbai Indians Women

MI-W won their first game against Gujarat Giants courtesy of a captain’s knock from Harmanpreet Kaur. She scored 65 off 30 balls with as many as 14 fours to set up the game for her side. Mumbai’s bowlers then did a good job of bowling out the opposition. Thus they are confident heading into their next game and with Kaur as captain they are ahead of their opposition.

Mumbai Indians roped in Harmanpreet for 1.80 crores. England cricketer Nat Sciver was their most expensive player for 3.20 crores. Apart from her, the franchise bagged Pooja Vastrakar for 1.9 crores and Yastika Bhatia for 1.50 crores amongst other buys. Young Isabelle Wong turned out to be a surprise package for the side.

The franchise have an all-women coaching staff, including former England captain Charlotte Edwards, who will be the head coach of the franchise. She will be assisted by former India captain Jhulan Goswami, who has been named mentor and bowling coach of the franchise, and former India allrounder Devika Palshikar, who was named batting coach.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Women

Bangalore lost their first game against Delhi Capitals, women, by 60 runs chasing a mammoth 224 to win. They have a quick turnaround and will have to identify the areas where they can work on. They are the most star-studded side with the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Elysse Perry, Heather Knight, Sophie Devine, and Renuka Singh Thakur as part of their team.

They failed to perform collectively as a unit in the first game. Their bowlers leaked way too many runs on a good batting wicket. Smriti won the toss and opted to chase on a good batting wicket. Her decision went against her in the first game. She should back her side to bat first in case she wins the toss in the next game.

They have a reputed coaching staff as well with Mike Hesson being the Director of Cricket at RCB. They will be mentored by former Indian tennis champion Sania Mirza. They also roped in former Australian pacer Ben Sawyer as the head coach of the side. Former Indian cricketer Malolan Rangarajan is the assistant coach and also chief of scouting of the franchise ahead of the first season.
