Indian batter KL Rahul has been dropped from the third Test match against Australia in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Wednesday, March 1. Former Indian Test vice-captain KL Rahul was left out of the starting XI following poor performances in the recent times in the longer format of the game.
Rohit Sharma won the toss for the first time in the series and opted to bat first. India made two changes to their winning combination, with Shubman Gill and Umesh Yadav replacing KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami. The team management decided to drop Rahul while Shami was rested. Umesh Yadav is better suited for Indian conditions.

Rahul is going through the toughest period of his career in red-ball cricket. The right-handed batsman was removed as the vice-captain of the Test team for the last two matches. He hasn’t scored a half-century in his last 10 Test innings, registering scores of 8, 12, 10, 22, 23, 10, 2, 20, 17, and 1.
Shubman Gill, on the other hand, has been in the form of his life in recent times. Gill scored his first Test century in Bangladesh and he scored a double century at home against New Zealand.
Team India retained the BGT for the fourth time in a row by winning the first two matches to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing series. The Rohit Sharma-led side beat Australia to complete two matches in three days. Indian spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandra Ashwin shone throughout the series.
