The WPL 2023 auction was held on February 13 in Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre. Some of the best Indian and overseas players were a part of the auction. Royal Challengers Bangalore were one of the five franchises that were involved in intense bidding in the auction. 

The franchise is owned by United Spirits Limited, a Diageo Group company. Prathmesh Mishra, the chief commissioner officer at the Diageo Group, is also the chairman of the RCB franchise.

The franchise roped in some of the most well-known cricketers including Smriti Mandhama, Elysse Perry, Sophie Divine, Richa Ghosh amongst others. They spent a total of 11.90 crores to complete a squad of 18 players. Smriti was the most expensive player they bought at 3.40 crores. She is also expected to lead the side. 

They have a reputed coaching staff as well with Mike Hesson being the Director of Cricket at RCB. They will be mentored by former Indian tennis champion Sania Mirza. They also roped in former Australian pacer Ben Sawyer as the head coach of the side. Former Indian cricketer Malolan Rangarajan as the assistant coach and also chief of scouting of the franchise ahead of the first season.

The tournament will be played from March 4-26. The matches will be played the Brabourne stadium and DY Patil stadium with the final to be played at the Brabourne stadium on March 26. The league stage will end with a match between UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals on March 21 at the Brabourne Stadium. The Eliminator is scheduled to be held at the DY Patil Stadium on March 24. Finally, the WPL 2023 final will take place on March 26 at the Brabourne Stadium. Both the venues will host 11 matches each.
