Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois admits that he is physically and mentally ready to be the executor if the 2021-22 Champions League final against Liverpool must be decided on a penalty shootout.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are teams with a slick record of success in Europe. The Reds won six times while Madrid 13 times.

The two last met in the 2018 final. At that time Madrid won 3-1 over Liverpool.

Now it's quite difficult to predict who will be the winner. Determination of who is entitled to lift the trophy Si Ear Wide may have to be determined via a penalty shootout.

Courtois Ready to Become an Executor

Thibaut Courtois has also prepared himself if the 2021-22 Champions League final match between Liverpool vs Real Madrid has to be decided via a penalty shootout. But besides that, he is also prepared if he is needed later to be the executor from point 12, too.

"I remember in pre-season with Chelsea against PSG I scored one goal and in the Community Shield against Arsenal I missed one goal. (Antonio) Conte put me there because he knows I can shoot well, but obviously standing where, in important moments, is different," he said as reported by Goal.

"I won't be one of the first five, for sure, but maybe after. If you need to shoot, you have to shoot," Courtois said.

"I'm not afraid. This is a moment to shine," he continued.

Courtois is getting more confident

Thibaut Courtois later admitted that he was confident that he would be able to achieve positive results if it was true that the Liverpool vs Real Madrid duel had to be decided via a penalty shootout. Because he feels his performance in stopping the opponent's penalty kick has improved now.

"We won one (on penalties) against Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup a few years ago when I saved one penalty. This season I have saved three," he said proudly.

"You study first [about the opponent's penalty habits]. Against Chelsea we had two penalties and you study them, because you can see the similarities. Hopefully it won't come back like that but if it does, I'll be ready."

50-50

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has previously spoken about his team's chances of facing Liverpool in the 2021-22 Champions League final against Liverpool. He said his team's chance to win was no greater than the opponent's.

vice versa. He also emphasized that big games like this are actually very difficult to predict.

"We are facing a team that is probably the best in Europe at the moment. But there is no seed in the final. I think it is still 50-50 because the Champions League final is unpredictable," he told PA Media.
