Modric, bad news for Odegaard

Modric’s recital against Scotland has all the madridismo congratulating… except Odegaard.

The Croatian’s second youth is bad news for the Norwegian, who could see last season’s history repeat itself if Luka maintains his ‘galactic’ level of play, which he has extended to the European Championship. Goal and assist in the decisive victory that put Croatia in the round of 16 and undisputed leader of the national team.

Odegaard has to return… and this time to stay. Madrid is not considering transferring him and without Zidane, who did not give him all the confidence that the club believes he should have given him, they hope that with Ancelotti he will make that leap in quality that will bring him closer to the version he offered at Real Sociedad.

The ‘explosion’ of the Norwegian is one of the great challenges that has been put on the table to the Italian coach, along with other young players who, according to Madrid, have not reached their full potential with ZZ at the helm.

Ancelotti’s challenge

But it will not be easy because Modric has proved to be an insurmountable wall for Odegaard, who will once again have the threat of the Croatian, once renewed until 2022 as a reward for a last season in the white team that has been of honor.

When everyone assumed his departure this summer at the end of his contract (the first Madrid recovering Odegaard from Real to put in place the relay), Modric has pulled out of the hat a year to mark.

And that is what Odegaard will have to fight against and that is what Ancelotti will have to find solutions to, as he will have to manage Modric’s impressive form with the need to give the Norwegian the necessary space to make effective the relief that did not have continuity last season and that caused the departure of the young player in January to Arsenal, nervous and annoyed at the lack of minutes.

Modric does not lower his level

On June 14, 2020, Modric was a starter for Real Madrid against Eibar in the first game of the final stretch of La Liga after the confinement.

On June 22, 2021, he was a starter in Croatia’s third match at the European Championship.

In the year that separates one date and another, the ’10’ has played 72 matches between Real Madrid and the national team at 35 years of age (which will be 36 in three months).

The incredible Modric is living a second youth that has led him to have a spectacular year. He has played 14 of the 16 matches with the national team (he ‘agreed’ to miss the two friendlies in September) and played 58 of Real Madrid’s 64 matches.

In total, in just over 12 months he has played 72 of the 80 possible matches, 90 percent.

That’s crazy. Beyond the number of matches, the merit lies in the quality of all of them.

Modric is a ‘starter’ in Real Madrid and also in the national team.
