Robin Olsen joined Aston Villa from AS Roma. Lovre Kalinic was the latest departure who made a move on a free transfer in the summer. Emiliano Martínez is their first-choice goalkeeper. He was injured this year so couldn’t get enough games.

Since the departure of Jack Grealish, Aston Villa struggled to find the best options in midfield. Leander Dendoncker as a defensive midfielder is a great addition to the squad. They lost their two central midfielders in the summer window. The young Carney Chukwuemeka moved to Chelsea and the 31-year-old Conor Hourihane joined Derby. Luiz and Kamara are making quick paces in their adaption to the Premier League while the others have not done so well yet. The midfield has a new look to the side.

Aston Villa brought in Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona for £20 million and the move worked for them so far. He gave the Villans the impetus to get themselves in the EFL Cup. Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings are two prominent central forwards for Villa. Danny Ings left the club this winter.
