Klopp: Winning With Mainz More Special Than Winning Champions League

Jurgen Klopp won the Champions League with Liverpool as well as ended the Reds' 30-year domestic league title drought. But it's not what he considers his biggest achievement in football.

Jurgen Klopp joined Liverpool Football Club on 8th October 2015. He replaced Brendan Rodgers as the manager. Since his appointment, Klopp has led Liverpool to numerous successes, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup titles

Speaking in 2021, he said that his proudest moment is taking Mainz, his former club, to the Bundesliga — and he has doubled down on this claim in a fresh interview.

"Still [getting] promoted with Mainz 05. I lost more Champions League finals than most people played. Winning it once is cool, big and important," Klopp told SportBILD, as quoted in the Liverpool Echo.

"It felt very, very special. But it is a special story. At that time, nobody needed Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga. We were a team with players who got a second chance.

"In the end we made it after failing spectacularly twice. The conditions were so bad that it was the greatest success I've ever had.

"Nobody really believed we could do that. We stayed stubborn and pushed through. Later I won bigger titles, but I also had better teams at my disposal, better conditions, a lot more money."
