Sergio Ramos rejects mega Saudi Pro League contract to rejoin boyhood club

Legendary defender Sergio Ramos has reportedly rejected a big-money move to Saudi Arabia in order to rejoin his boyhood club.

The 37-year-old’s time with French giants Paris Saint Germain came to an end on the back of the 22/23 season and he has been a free agent ever since.

During the summer transfer window, Ramos was linked with moves to Major League Soccer as well as the Saudi Professional League.

However, he is now set to rejoin his boyhood Club, Sevilla.

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Ramos rejected an offer of €11 million per year from Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray and also a whopping €20 million a year offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad.

Instead, he will earn just over €1 million per year at Sevilla.

Back in 1996, Ramos joined Sevilla’s youth ranks from Camas.

After playing for Sevilla Atletico from 2003, he made his senior debut for Sevilla’s first team in February 2004.

In total, he made 50 appearances and scored three goals before moving from Sevilla to Real Madrid.

In 2005, Madrid paid €27 million to bring Ramos to the club, at the time, it was the record transfer fee for a Spanish defender. He also became the only Spanish player brought in during Florentino Perez’s first spell as club president.

Ramos went on to become one of the finest defenders in the history of the sport. In total, Ramos played 671 times for Madrid, scoring 101 times.

The defender also got his hands on a host of different trophies, including five La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues, three UEFA Super Cups, four FIFA Club World Cups and four Supercopas de Espana.

In 2021, Ramos signed for PSG and won two Ligue 1 titles during his stay in Paris.

On the international stage, Ramos was in the Spain squads which won the World Cup in 2010 and the Euro in both 2008 and 2012.
