Sheikh Jassim has Solskjaer return plan if his Man Utd takeover bid is successful

Sheikh Jassim, who is leading the race to take control of Manchester United, would like to work closely with the club's legends if his takeover bid is successful

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could make a sensational return to Manchester United if Sheikh Jassim wins the battle to take control of the club.

Solskjaer failed to lead United to a trophy during his three years at the helm before being sacked in November 2021. Following a chaotic spell under Ralf Rangnick, United appointed Erik ten Hag later in the 2021/22 season and fans are content with the progress made under the Dutchman.

Despite falling well short of Manchester City’s levels, United did win the Carabao Cup and qualify for the Champions League last season, as well as reaching the FA Cup final, where they lost narrowly to City.

Therefore, there is no chance of United looking for a new boss in the short term. However, Sheikh Jassim has made it clear he would be happy to bring club legends back to Old Trafford.

Solskjaer certainly ticks the ‘legendary’ box having scored the last-gasp winner in the 1999 Champions League final against Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp.

The Norwegian is certainly open to returning to United in some capacity in the future. Speaking at an event recently, he said he is eager to get back into the game in some capacity.

"I’ve got another job in me, if it’s the right chance and exciting enough,” he said. “There are so many clubs, but I’m not going to work just for the sake of working.

"It has to be something special, a new culture, or a club that really excites me. Or maybe they will want me back at the club [United] in some capacity, who knows?"

Sheikh Jassim is the current favourite to take control at Old Trafford and has reportedly been granted a period of exclusivity to negotiate a deal with the Glazers. The Qatari banker’s offer is believed to be for full control of the club.

British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains in the frame, although fans are concerned he would merely buy a stake in the club, meaning the unpopular Glazers could remain in some capacity.
