Newcastle United have parted ways with eight players as the 22/23 season comes to a close.

The Magpies enjoyed a stellar campaign under the guidance of Eddie Howe as they managed to mount and sustain a push for Champions League football.

Despite some scares midway through the season, Newcastle managed to fend off Liverpool as they finished in fourth place, four points ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s men.

As the club prepare for the new season, they have confirmed the departures of eight players.

Defender Ciaran Clark and midfielder Matty Longstaff have been released as their contracts are set to expire at the end of the month.

Joining them are academy players Harry Barclay, Niall Brookwell, Dan Langley, Joe Oliver, Josh Stewart and Isaac Westendorf.

A statement from the club read: “Newcastle United thanks all of the players leaving St. James' Park for their efforts and wishes them every success for the future.”

Whilst Matty Ritchie’s contract will be extended for one extra year despite only having 10 appearances to his name during the 22/23 season.

Goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and centre-back Dan Burn have also seen their contracts extended as Howe looks to shape his squad ahead of a tough season with the additional pressure from the Champions League.

Furthermore, defender Paul Dummett and goalkeeper Loris Karius have also reportedly been offered new deals to extend their stay at St.James’ Park.
