Adrien Rabiot's Arrival would not signal the end of Manchester United's interest in Frenkie de Jong, according to The Athletic.
The Dutchman remains a priority transfer target but Erik Ten Hag has 'sanctioned' the purchase of an alternative midfielder as the saga drags on.
The Red Devils have a deal in place with Barcelona for De Jong but the player is refusing to leave Camp Nou unless he's paid everything he's owed in deferred wages.
Chelsea, who can offer the 25-year-old Champions League football this season, are interested in the midfielder as well. However, the pull of working with Ten Hag is believed to be much stronger.
