Monaco will receive PSV Eindhoven for the first leg of their third-round 2022–23 Champions League qualification match at the Stade Louis II.

Last season, Philippe Clement's team finished third in Ligue 1, while their Dutch opponents entered the match having won an exciting Johan Cruiff Schaal match against Ajax.

The hiring of Philippe Clement, the former manager of Club Brugge, did not appear to be paying off at first, but Monaco finished last season's top-flight campaign with a late push for the Champions League positions after winning nine and drawing one of their final 10 games.

PSV, like Monaco, last participated in the Champions League group stage during the 2018–19 campaign. Prior to losing to Leicester City in the Europa Conference League quarterfinals last season, PSV had tasted all three levels of European football.

Meetings between these two clubs have not frequently occurred, although PSV defeated Monaco 3-0 on aggregate in the 2004–05 Champions League's last-16 stage after the French team had won one and drawn one match in the previous season.

Both of these teams have focused on scoring goals all summer, but Monaco can take full advantage as PSV is worn out from their Super Cup heroics and dealing with ailments up top.

After a few shaky defensive displays in preseason, it is difficult to see Clement's team giving up completely, thus we are betting on an exciting first leg to end in a draw.
