The 2023 College World Series is underway, and the bats are flying!. The most popular bats being used at the CWS are from DeMarini and Louisville Slugger, with a smattering or one each for Marucci and Rawlings.

DeMarini is the leading bat manufacturer in college baseball, and its bats are used by a majority of players at the CWS. The most popular DeMarini bat at the CWS is the The Goods. The Goods is a single-piece alloy bat that is known for its power and durability.

Louisville Slugger is another popular bat manufacturer in college baseball. The most popular Louisville Slugger bat at the CWS is the Select PWR. The Select PWR is a three-piece hybrid bat that is known for its balance and performance

Here’s a breakdown of which teams and players are swinging which bats:

2023 Virginia Cavaliers

As you may have guessed, Virginia is a Rawlings school. The interesting this is we’re seeing Virginia players swinging newly released Rawlings bats on the field Ethan O’Donnell was swinging with the new Clout AI bat and Henry Godbout the new Mach AI bat. There has not been any sighting of these bats in the stores, so we believe they are still in the pre-release stage. We suspect the Clout AI is a replacement for the Velo bat, and the Mach AI is a replacement for the 5150 bats. We’ll need to sit and wait for Rawlings to release more details.

The majority of the players have been using the 5150, again most likely to be replaced by the Mach AI.

2023 TCU Horn Frogs

The Horn Frogs are swinging DeMarini bats, and it’s an even split between the Voodoo One and the Goods One, except for one using the two-piece version. The 2024 Voodoo One has made an appearance as TCU is always one of the first to test out new bats under the DeMarini umbrella.  Regardless, it’s exciting to see the new 2024 DeMarini Voodoo One make an appearance.

2023 Wake Forest Demon Deacons Bats

The Slugger dominates the lineup of Wake Forest baseball. All but two of the lineup are using it, while the remaining two use the Omaha. Specifically, lots of 2023 Select PWRs as well as some throwback 517 Omaha’s.

2023 LSU Tigers Bats

The CAT X Connect is a heavy swinging bat made for big hitters, so it’s no surprise these bats are all over the place in the #1 ranked LSU Tiger’s lineup. The CAT X is a light-swinging bat, so it’s a bit surprising that Paxton Kling likes it so, but he’s a great hitter, so don’t fix what is not broken.

We are not seeing the 2023 Marucci CAT X Composite on the field. This is most likely due to the fact that bigger hitters don’t like the light swing and smooth smash of the Composite version. But younger hitters due like this version.

The 2023 Stanford Cardinals are also a Louisville school. Their breakdown is different than Wake Forest who mostly uses the Select PWR. The majority of Stanford players use the Omaha with a smattering of the Atlas and Select PWR.

Tennessee Vols are another Louisville Slugger school. As with Wake Forest, they swing the heavier Select PWR alloy barrel bats. It is interesting that their big hitter, Zane Denton, uses a lighter swinging single-piece Atlas alloy bat as does Charlie Taylor.
