Quick Roundup of Gunners on International Duty

Following the exhilarating win over Manchester City, Arsenal had 14 players that were called up for international duty, and so far, there have been no injury concerns. Without further ado, Gooner Daily gives a quick breakdown of the Gunners in action at international duty.

Mohamed Elneny

The stalwart of the squad has been recuperating from a long term knee injury and got his first minutes of the campaign in the narrow win over Brentford in the EFL Cup. Elneny got some game time for Egypt in the slender win over Zambia and will be available for selection in the Arab derby clash against Algeria by 5.00pm today.

I don’t expect Elneny to get any major minutes on return from international duty with Egypt but there are loads of games to be played, and I am sure he’d get to feature at some point in the course of the campaign.

Martin Odegaard

Arsenal’s captain led Norway to their double header against Cyprus and Spain with hopes of Euro 2024 qualifications in mind. Odegaard played 77 minutes in the routine 4-0 win over group whooping boys, Cyprus, but the game against Spain, on home turf, was one that Norway could not afford to lose, but a solitary goal for Gavi handed Spain all three points, locking the Iberian nation at the top of Group A with 15 points alongside Scotland that has 15 points too.

Odegaard’s nation has 10 points and will be hoping for a strong end to their qualification campaign.

David Raya

Arsenal’s new #1 was unlikely to get any start for Spain’s clashes with Scotland and Norway. Spain needed two wins against the two teams ahead of them in the standings, so 6 points were absolutely vital. Raya celebrated the victories over both international nations from the dugout, as Spain is odds on to qualify for the mundial in Germany.

Jakub Kiwior

Jakub Kiwior had a monster performance in the EFL Cup Third Round victory over Brentford, showing his versatility. Kiwior played as a left center back of a back three in Poland’s clashes against Faroe Islands and Moldova. Kiwior played 90 minutes in both games, winning Faroe Islands and a disappointing draw with Moldova.

That draw with Moldova put that group in bedlam with Albania on 13 points, Czechia on 11, Poland on 10 and Moldova on 9.

Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Jesus

With Gabriel Martinelli not called up due to his injury struggles, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel were called up. Gabriel, who recently made his Brazilian national team debut last month, scored his first Brazil goal in the 1-1 draw with Venezuela. Gabriel Jesus came on as a substitute on the 59th minute for Richarlison.

Both Arsenal players will be odds on to feature in the Uruguay vs. Brazil match on Wednesday.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Takehiro Tomiyasu has been a Swiss Army Knife this season, featuring in all positions across the Arsenal backline this season. He was called up by the Blue Samurai and featured for 45 minutes in Japan’s win over Canada. Japan hosts Tunisia tomorrow and Tomiyasu will be odds on to feature in the match.

Karl Hein

Arsenal’s third choice goalie has only featured once for the club in the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton last season and will hardly feature for the club, but he’s a regular for his nation, Estonia.

Hein was in goal for Estonia’s defeat to Azerbaijan in a Euro qualifier and will probably feature in the dead-rubber friendly against Thailand tomorrow.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Zinchenko got himself a cheeky assist in Ukraine’s win over North Macedonia and will be odds on to start yet again for his nation tomorrow when Ukraine visits Malta.

Zinchenko has done well to return from an early season injury and continued his inverting stuff which is a major part of how we play.

Eddie Nketiah, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Aaron Ramsdale

Bukayo Saka’s inclusion to the England national team dominated the headlines, especially after he wasn’t fit enough to play for Arsenal against Manchester City, but common sense prevailed when he was withdrawn from the squad as he clearly wasn’t fit enough to compete.

Nketiah made his debut for England against Australia while Rice and Ramsdale stayed on the bench. With a high-profile against Italy tomorrow, I will expect Rice to start while Nketiah and Ramsdale should stay in the dugout, unless Southgate decides to change his mind, but knowing Southgate, that’s not going to happen.

Kai Havertz

Kai Havertz came on as a sub and played 28 minutes in Germany’s much-needed victory over USA, to launch a new era under Julian Nagelsmann’s national team coaching career. Germany has another clash with Mexico early on Wednesday and Havertz will be hoping to impress his new manager enough to push for a start.

Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey played 45 minutes for Ghana against Mexico and rumors starting surfacing that he was injured yet again, but Ghana boss, Chris Hughton, came to say that the plan was always to play Partey for just 45 minutes bearing in mind that he’s just returning from injury.

Partey has a match with the United States early on Wednesday and I will expect his minutes to be managed again in the international fixture.

Hopefully these players will return to London Colney unscathed ahead of a crunch clash against Chelsea.

Sayonara.
