Chelsea are interested in signing Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, according to reports.
James Maddison, whose Leicester side have been relegated from the Premier League, is linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium this summer. In fact, The Sun recently named Newcastle United and Tottenham as the two strongest suitors for £40million-rated Maddison
However, Chelsea’s name has now been thrown into the mix for the 26-year-old Leicester and England star.
Writing in his Substack, well-respected journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Chelsea have set their sights on Leicester’s attacking midfielder.
He reports that “the interest is real” from the Blues in Maddison, but there’s other priorities in the transfer market right now.
It sounds like Chelsea’s immediate focus isn’t on bringing the Foxes talisman to Stamford Bridge, but we certainly wouldn’t mind the club ramping up interest in the next few weeks.
He scored 10 goals and made nine assists in 32 Leicester appearances during the recently finished season, which is quite some feat in such a poor side.
It’s obvious that the creative maestro is far too good to be playing Championship football next term, and our guess is he could make a very positive impact at any of the top sides around the country.
Maddison’s reputation has soared in recent seasons with his consistent top-flight performances. In particular, Chelsea fans may be interested to hear comments from Frank Lampard on the Leicester star from last year:
“He’s a good footballer to watch. Not for me as an opposition manager today, but I enjoy watching him,” Lampard said, as quoted by the Leicester Mercury.
It’s been quite a tedious job recently watching Chelsea try to attack and score goals, but Maddison is the type of individual that would inject real life into the Blues attack!
