Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that the club will not re-sign Chelsea FC striker Romelu Lukaku on a permanent contract at the end of the season.

Romelu Lukaku was relegated to filling in as a substitute in a match that many would have picked him to win just two years ago on a night when Inter reached a historic goal in reaching for the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time since 2011. Following the scoreless draw with Porto, Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta was open about the future of the Belgian.
“The loan was for one season so on June 30 regardless of how well he plays, he’ll go back to Chelsea,” Marotta told Sky Italia. “This has been an unprecedented season. I’m referring of course to the World Cup. The problems we’ve experienced have been experienced by other clubs too and the players who played at the World Cup.

“Lukaku is a case in point. [Marcelo] Brozovic isn’t the Brozovic we know. Lukaku hasn’t found the fitness he needs to play his best football. He’s still not at his best or the player we got to see in years gone by.”
Romelu Lukaku returned to Chelsea F.C. in a record-breaking £98 million deal after leading Inter to the Scudetto under Antonio Conte in 2020–21 and forging a great relationship with Lautaro Martinez. In a shocking interview, he begged for a return to Inter, which he obtained in the form of a loan this season, but he struggled to catch up in the Premier League.
The Belgian forward’s homecoming to San Siro hasn’t been as romantic as he’d anticipated, however, as injuries and inconsistent play have hampered his season and kept him to only five goals in 17 games to.
According to Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta’s most recent statements, Lukaku’s future is currently highly uncertain.
At Chelsea F.C., Graham Potter already has to manage a ridiculously bloated squad that seems to be now getting to blend, and Chelsea F.C. is set for a summer clear-out as it is required in order to recuperate funds. Lukaku could be part of it.
