Graham Potter’s burden has lessened a bit in recent days thanks to wins over Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund, which have given the Chelsea head coach renewed optimism.

“It’s always nicer to win, everything feels a bit better, it feels like you have taken a step forward,” Potter explained at his pre-match press conference yesterday. “But I am not getting carried away. It is just two wins. I have to focus on Leicester. The boys have been in a good place, a good spirit. They have stuck together through a bad time which is good.

“We have to play well. I think Leicester’s results are worse than their performances. They’ve been a bit unfortunate as well I think. They are suffering from not the best of starts, I’m sure Brendan [Rodgers] will agree with that. But they’ve rallied as well and still have some really good players. I have huge respect for what Brendan has done there and he is a top coach and top person. It’ll be a tough game.”

Chelsea will be without several important players, as has been the case for the majority of the season. Due to a knee injury, Thiago Silva is out of action. James is unwell. N’Golo Kante’s hamstring injury has been there for a while, but he isn’t yet fit to play.

We won’t take a chance with Mason Mount’s (abdomen). Raheem Sterling (hamstring) is questionable. Also, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (rear). Moreover, Armando Broja (knee) won’t participate in any more games this year.

READ | Report: Graham Potter is playing a £150,000 weekly player in the wrong position, according to Chelsea’s staff.

After having surgery in January to treat a fractured finger, Edouard Mendy is getting closer to making a comeback. The Senegalese international won’t likely replace Kepa Arrizabalaga upon his return, though, as the Spaniard has reasserted himself as Chelsea’s top choice after serving as the team’s backup goalkeeper for the previous two seasons.

Potter is anticipated to stick with the 3-4-2-1 formation that helped him beat Borussia Dortmund and Leeds United. Wesley Fofana should keep his position on the right of the back three when he returns to the King Power Stadium as a result.

Marc Cucurella, who had a strong performance in midweek, might get another chance to start in place of Kalidou Koulibaly in the center.

James won’t be playing this afternoon because he missed training on Thursday and Friday due to illness. After recovering from a concussion, Cesar Azpilicueta is likely to rejoin the team as the right wing-back. Ben Chilwell, who after a trying 14 months has returned to his best form, is most likely to start on the other wing.

Enzo Fernandez, who joined the team from Benfica in January, will once again play in the midfield. Potter must choose who will partner the Argentine, and he may decide to rest Mateo Kovacic and add Denis Zakaria.

A change in the front three is anticipated. After a brilliant performance against Dortmund, Kai Havertz should once again be in charge of the attack. Raheem Sterling, however, might not be taken as a risk given that he felt tightness in his hamstring before the game.

Thus, Noni Madueke can enter on the right while Joao Felix begins on the left. Mykhailo Mudryk would be among the substitutes once more.
