The powerful midfielder described as “a rock physically and mentally” is the focus of Chelsea’s attention.

Chelsea have set their sights on Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka in a bid to solve their current problem in midfield.

Graham Potter has adapted well to life at Chelsea as he has guided them back into the top four. The former Brighton manager is unbeaten across his first six matches with his new club.

Potter’s side currently find themselves on a four-game winning streak in the Premier League as the feel-good factor has been restored at Stamford Bridge.

January will be the first opportunity for Potter to dip into the transfer market. Todd Boehly has made his ambitions clear to see and so there won’t be a lack of funds available.

Chelsea spent over £200million in the summer and they are expected to splash the cash once again.

Given how competitive the league is this year, Potter won’t want to have any weaknesses in his side as they battle for a spot in the top four.

Lobotka is on their radar

Napoli have had an excellent start to the 2022/23 campaign and so plenty of their players are grabbing the headlines at the moment.

One of their more underrated players during this campaign has been Lobotka. The 27-year-old is a combative midfielder who sometimes goes under the radar.

A report from NapoliCalcio claims that Chelsea are currently weighing up a move for the Napoli man.

The report explains that Chelsea are interested in a move for him in the next summer transfer window, but Napoli are determined to keep hold of him.

The 27-year-old is described as ‘a rock physically and mentally’ for a Napoli side that have excelled during this season.

His current deal with the Italian outfit runs until 2025 and so they are under no pressure to sell.

Lobotka is entering into his fourth season with Napoli, after joining the Italian club from Celta Vigo in 2020.

The Slovakian midfielder averages 2.2 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game. He also keeps things tidy on the ball and has a pass completion rate of 92.3 per cent.

Given Napoli’s strong start to the season, they will do everything in their power to keep this current group together.

Chelsea need to refresh their midfield:

Chelsea’s midfield has traditionally been a strong point of their side, but they could now do with overhauling the position.

While the likes of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho have been great assets for Chelsea, their long-term futures at the club are currently in doubt.

Injuries have started to take their toll on Kante, who has only started in two Premier League matches this season.

The likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher have had roles to play during this campaign and have been given several opportunities by Potter.

With that being said, Chelsea are likely to want another holding midfielder sooner rather than later.

Denis Zakaria was signed by Chelsea in the summer transfer window on an initial loan deal, with the option of making the transfer permanent.

Given the Swiss midfielder is yet to make his Chelsea debut, it is hard to tell if they will take up the option of signing him permanently.

Lobotka could prove to be a sensible bit of business by Chelsea, but time will tell if their interest is genuine.
