PREVIEW: AC MIlan vs Chelsea Team News, Probable Lineups, Tactics, Key Stats & Prediction

Graham Potter will be aiming for a quick double over AC Milan as Chelsea travels to San Siro with momentum in mind.

Stefano Pioli, the manager of AC Milan, will consider his team’s recent performance and attempt to carry domestic success into Europe with the match against Chelsea. The Blues easily defeated the Rossoneri last week. Chelsea won the game easily 3-0 because Milan was never given a chance to get involved.

Due to that loss, Milan fell to third place in Group E rankings, while the west Londoners moved up to second.
Despite their current injury woes, Milan will be confident going into their second encounter with Chelsea at San Siro.

At the weekend, Milan defeated Juventus by two goals to resume their winning ways. After a horrible performance upon his return from London, Fikayo Tomori scored over the weekend, along with Brahim Diaz. It would be interesting to see if that victory will be enough to bolster their self-confidence before the second leg against the Blues.

Prior to traveling to Milan, Chelsea will be quite confident. The team has won three games in a row overall under Graham Potter’s management. The Blues prepared well for the Champions League match by picking up three points at the weekend against a woeful Wolves team.

After having a rough start in their first two games, they were able to get their Champions League campaign back on track last week with a victory over Milan. With only Red Bull Salzburg ahead of them by one point after three games, their victory at Stamford Bridge helped them move up to second on the table.

Potter will undoubtedly be aiming for a double against Milan and hoping Salzburg loses to Dinamo Zagreb. Chelsea will be able to return their attention to domestic obligations since games will be played often in the upcoming weeks if they comfortably advance to the next round.

Milan

The starting lineup might resemble the one from last week, however Pioli is predicted to make a few minor adjustments to fit the situation. Although no changes to the backline are anticipated, Theo Hernandez might be brought in after getting back in shape. There might be some reviving for the attack.

Rade Krunic ought to return, but Olivier Giroud is ideally suited to head Milan’s attack. The latter took the field against Chelsea but sat out the match against Juventus. Charles De Ketelaere’s withdrawal opens up a spot for Brahim Diaz in the starting lineup.

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1):

Tatarusanu; Dest, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Krunic, Diaz, Leao; Giroud

Chelsea

Chelsea may not have many new issues ahead of their match against AC Milan, but Potter is missing three first-team players. N’Golo Kante, who has struggled with fitness this season, is still out. Other absentees include Hakim Ziyech and Wesley Fofana, with the latter expected to be out for a short time.

Potter could switch to players who were rested after using a significantly altered lineup against Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend. The Chelsea manager is most likely to bring back a back-three, with Thiago Silva replacing Cesar Azpilicueta.

Marc Cucurella is likely to be replaced by Ben Chilwell, and Reece James will start at right wing-back. Ruben Loftus-Cheek will likely pair with Mateo Kovacic in midfield.

The only attacker who might have survived the weekend adjustments is Mason Mount. After taking a break against Wolves, Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang might possibly make a comeback. Armando Broja, a young striker, will continue to be an option on the bench.

Probable Lineup (3-4-3):

Kepa; Chalobah, Silva, Koulibaly; James, Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Chilwell; Sterling, Aubameyang, Mount
