REPORTS: Jasson Dominguez Might Not Have A Role With The Yankees In 2024 ?

Jasson Dominguez, New York Yankees’ potential future star and highly rated prospect, finally commenced his rehab assignment after being out for 6 months with a UCL tear injury. He underwent Tommy John surgery at the age of 22 and has been in rehabilitation ever since.

However, Jasson Dominguez’s injury list timeline will expire in a couple of months. Hence, the Yankees have begun ramping up his recovery process and sent him to Single-A Tarpons for his first rehab assignment. However, the reality is that even if Dominguez manages to recover quickly, he won’t be able to return to the major league roster immediately.

Jasson Dominguez just played his first rehab game with Single-A Tampa Tarpons after 6 months of rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery. The kid broke through the gates upon return to script several franchise records before fate chose to play games with him. Regardless, the Martian remains in safe hands with the New York Yankees, who are determined to make the best choices for the kid. Apparently, Dominguez has been directed to play only as a designated hitter for the first two weeks of his rehab assignment. Manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Jasson needs to undergo a proper spring build-up before the team can discuss his future for the season. “Let’s just get out of his way right now and get him playing,” said Boone.

However, the decision also won’t be an easy one for Aaron Boone. The New York Yankees outfield depth is overflowing at the moment, with regular faces like Trent Grisham serving as fourth outfielder. Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Alex Verdugo are not as injury-prone, and their offensive contributions have been vital in the Yankees’ success this year. Hence, even if Jasson Dominguez manages to recover by the All-Star break, he will most likely be optioned to the minor league for some extra reps and practice. Importantly, Dominguez was rushed to majors last season due to the team’s post-season fallout. While he was impressive in September, the kid’s lack of minor-league experience cannot be bypassed. Hence, as per early assessment, Dominguez seems most likely to spend the season in minors, with a potential opportunity to start from next year’s opening day.

Meanwhile, Jasson Dominguez is making a good case for himself after a successful first rehab game. Playing for Single-A Tarpons as a DH on Tuesday, the 22-year-old encountered a familiar face in Domingo German and optimized the opportunity to hit a line drive in his very first at-bat after months of no action.

That being said, Jasson Dominguez will play a few more games as a DH with Single-A whilst having throwing reps on the sidelines. His initial 20-day rehab timeline is unlikely to consist of any outfield activity. However, the New York Yankees have already made it clear that they plan to move slowly and cautiously with Jasson’s rehab.
