REPORTS: Mercedes Getting Ready For “The Stern Test” Ahead At Emilia Romagna GP

Mercedes had one of the worst starts to a season in their team history this year. This season will mark the last year for Lewis Hamilton in the Brackley team’s uniform. Hence, it has been a bit sad and a lot more frustrating season for the Silver Arrows. Moreover, the great Briton said before the opening Grand Prix in Bahrain that before he leaves this team, he wants to help them challenge for the title one last time. However, the situation has not been ideal for the German outfit because the car is still not great.

Even Lewis Hamilton had the worst start to a season this year. In fact, George Russell has performed better than his teammate so far. But still, it is a long way to go this season. Next weekend, F1 will return to Europe, and the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will be crucial for every team to prepare themselves for the following races in the continent. Moreover, Toto Wolff recently said that the Italian GP will be a “Stern test” for his team.

According to RacingNews365, Toto Wolff believes his team will take some more time to take a reasonable step forward with their car. The Austrian billionaire executive said they have just completed the first quarter of the long road ahead through this season. Moreover, the Mercedes boss feels the first six races of the year have not been straightforward for them. However, Wolff stated that his team has got a clear understanding now about what they need to do to improve. Adding to that, the Mercedes team principal mentioned that they have planned according to their understanding for a “Clear path” ahead. However, Wolff believes it will take several races before they get the result they want.

But he is happy with everyone’s commitment to the team to achieve their goal as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Mercedes will be looking forward to maximize the package they have. Ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Toto Wolff said that his team will bring new upgrades to the next race. At present, the goal for Mercedes is to see that the new upgrades help in pushing them to the right direction. Last year, the race in the Emilia Romagna circuit got canceled because of the Imola flood. However, in 2024, teams are gearing up for racing in that circuit again.

Toto Wolff Is Happy With The Break From Sprint Race

Mercedes had also brought new upgrades to Miami. But the two back-to-back sprint race weekends made it difficult for the Brackley team to test their new upgrades. This sprint format has just one practice session. Hence, Toto Wolff is just glad that with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, they are back to the normal race weekend.

The normal race format is what several teams like Mercedes have been looking for. As per RacingNews365, Wolff said the usual format gives them more time to “Refine the setup.” However, the Mercedes boss is wary of the Imola track that is quite demanding for both the driver and the car.
