EXPLAINED: Can Olivier Sarr Be The Center The Lakers Have Been Looking For?

Los Angeles Lakers have done a great job during the free agency period of the offseason. They have got 13 players on their roster. Now, they are looking for two or more players to fill the gaps in the team’s roster. Rob Pelinka and the Lakers’ front office have been doing a great job since last February. If it was not for the February trades, the purple and gold would not even think about making the postseason. But the responsibilities of the front office are not yet over in the offseason.

Los Angeles Lakers have been looking for a big man who can space the floor. Initially, they were just looking for a big man who could take some pressure off Anthony Davis at center. But now they realize any big man like Jaxson Hayes won’t do. They need a specialist who can space the floor. In that respect, Christian Wood was a viable option for the Lakers. But it looks like they are not going in that direction.

The Lakers can hope to get a player from Oklahoma City Thunder. Moreover, the Thunder has got over 20 players already on their roster. However, Rob Pelinka can go for a center from OKC Thunder called Olivier Sarr, who is not among those twenty players they’ve got. The French player might not return to the Thunder as they have got a lot of talent and depth in their frontcourt to give him a chance on the court. Moreover, the Thunder can do what the Lakers did with Cole Swider. They might sign a two-way deal with Olivier Sarr.

The Frenchman can be the guy the Lakers were looking for. He is only 24 years old but has played over 31 games in the league. In his NBA career, Olivier Sarr has been averaging 8.3 rebounds along with 1.3 blocks every 36 minutes. Moreover, he shoots 37.8% three-pointers. The Frenchman can space the floor but won’t sacrifice any rim protection in the process. Theoretically, he will suit better with Anthony Davis due to his ability of defending the paint and spacing the floor in the offense.

Why Darvin Ham’s Side Was Doing Awful Before The February Trade Deadline?

Before February, the team had no balance, and there were too many injury issues. But after the return of Anthony Davis and a new group of players, the Lakers looked like a team to beat. They were strong enough to make the postseason. But the LA side shocked everybody when they managed to reach the Western Conference Finals. That’s what made the entry of the new group of players more special.

Hence, heading toward the free agency, the basic idea was to keep the core together. Moreover, three players became an integral part of the Lakers in the previous season. Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura were the top priorities of the Lakers to retain. The Lakers managed to extend all these three players’ contracts for multi-years. That’s why they say their off-season activities have been successful.
