Reports: These Two Inexperienced Relievers Are Likely To Step Up For The New York Yankees In 2023

New York Yankees are betting heavily on the young and inexperienced brigade for the upcoming MLB season.

New York Yankees are almost done with the off-season, as the spring training is just two weeks away. According to a few media reports, the Yanks’ front office plans to provide meaningful chances to the young brigade and possibly hand a promotion. For instance, the Bombers have called in 29 non-roster players for the spring training. Hence, we might get to see a lot of new faces over the course of the tournament.

The Yankees’ main goal is to have productive spring training. The team faces major issues in the roster and needs to find appropriate answers. For starters, the roster is without a starting shortstop, left field outfielder, and fifth starting pitcher. Along with this, the Yanks lack notable strong arms. Moreover, the front office now plans to advance these two in-house candidates.

Yankees Betting On These Two Inhouse Relievers For The Next Season

New York Yankees lost more than what they gained this off-season. Specifically speaking of the reliever, the Yanks lost Aroldis Chapman, Zack Britton, and Miguel Castro this free agency. While Aroldis was destined to leave, Zach and Castro entered the free agency market of free will. The only strong arm the Yanks brought in this off-season is Tommy Kahnle. While the options stay available in the free agency, the luxury tax regulation will disallow the Yankees to move forward.

Hence, the Bronx Bombers will have to shift focus on their existing bullpen. Meanwhile, according to Empire Sports Media, Ron Marinaccio and Greg Weissert are the two potential relievers the Yankees are relying heavily upon. Both the relievers are inexperienced but highly talented. Ron was impressive last season as he clocked a 2.05 ERA in 44 innings. On the other hand, Greg received less opportunity comparatively and posted a 5.56 ERA in 11.1 innings. Overall, the Bombers are likely to show a lot of faith in the duo and will elevate them in the starting roster if necessary.

Yanks Starry Bullpen Reeling Under Injury Concerns

Without a doubt, the New York Yankees build a star-stubbed bullpen year after year. However, injury concerns always pull back the Bombers during crucial stages. Just last year, the team lost significant players in the postseason, which resulted in the club’s ouster in the ALCS. Moreover, even this year, the situation looks grim. First of all, Frankie Montas re-picked his shoulder injury right after his contract extension announcements. Furthermore, Michael King, Scott Effross, and Luis Gill are out for at least 2-3 months.

For the New York Yankees to have a better season and probably contest the World Series title looks extremely difficult at this stage. They need to get the injured guys back as soon as possible. On top of that, the existing roster needs to be put in order before the opening day. Overall, more enormous challenges await the Yanks as the team moves to spring training in a couple of weeks.
