Seven deals to be done: Rangers reportedly set for busy week in Glasgow

Rangers are set for a busy week as the transfer window comes to a crescendo and reports point towards up to seven deals being completed at Ibrox.

The Ibrox side have already added nine names into their squad this summer with several of the club’s highest profile stars also exiting at the end of the season.

Michael Beale has hinted that only one more name is likely to join the club with fans pointing towards a centre-back amid the emergence of Rabbi Matondo.

This comes with much reportage also surrounding the left-wing position in the squad after Beale also suggested the club is yet to replace Ryan Kent in Glasgow.

Jake Cooper remains the most prominent player mentioned in defence, whilst Jesse Lingard’s name has made its way into the transfer vernacular of Ibrox supporters.

With a week left in the transfer window, reports surrounding both positions will come to a head with Rangers certainly almost at their full complement.

But whilst Rangers fans are more interested in who is set to join the club, all the sounds suggest there will be more movement out of Ibrox this week.

As much as five exit deals could be concluded with several of the club’s first-team stars reportedly set to leave Glasgow before the window closes.

Heavily Leeds United-linked Glen Kamara remains the most high-profile reportedly exit bound star, with a £5.5m deal mooted all summer long for the player.

Michael Beale has also hinted that disgruntled Romanian playmaker Ianis Hagi could be set to leave Rangers, with “background” discussions underway regarding an exit.

The situation of once Turkey-bound squad player Scott Wright remains unresolved, whilst there is genuine uncertainty surrounding the future of defender Ben Davies.

That’s even if the centre-back was included in the club’s Champions League squad.

And there is back-up stopper Robby McCrorie, whose links to Manchester United have gone quiet after the Old Trafford club moved elsewhere.

That means that up to seven deals could be concluded at Rangers in the coming days as the end of the transfer window promises a busy week at Ibrox.

Manager praying his two stars don’t join Rangers as Beale eyes Kent-like ace

Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson is hoping to retain both Zak Vyner and Sam Bell amid claims that the Championship duo are both on the radar of Scottish giants Rangers.

If Saturday’s insipid 2-0 home defeat against Birmingham City is a sign of things to come over the next few weeks – The Robins failing to even muster a shot on target after selling talismanic creator Alex Scott to AFC Bournemouth – it’s no wonder Pearson is determined to slam down the shutters and keep the rest of his star men in the building.

Rangers have been linked with both Sam Bell and Zak Vyner in recent weeks, via TEAMtalk and the Bristol Post.

But, with £25 million burning a hole in their back pockets, Pearson is hoping that Scott’s big-money departure will ki-bosh the need for further sales before next week’s transfer deadline.

“It depends on if somebody comes in for a player,” Pearson says, as reported by Yahoo Sport. “But hopefully, if someone does come in for one of our players, the club doesn’t allow (another sale) to happen.

“Because if you’ve lost a player you don’t have much time to do much (to replace them).”

Rangers boss Mick Beale was quick to play down reports linking Vyner with a move to Ibrox. Then again, it’s worth remembering that he was similarly dismissive about suggestions that Rangers were on the verge of signing Danilo, only for the former Feyenoord striker to arrive soon after.

Beale certainly wants another defender; Millwall’s Jake Cooper and Peterborough United’s much-coveted Ronnie Edwards also under consideration. Vyner may be the most affordable of the three, his contract expiring in less than 12 months’ time.

Sam Bell, meanwhile, could answer Beale’s prayers for another Ryan Kent-like winger (Daily Record).

Singled out for praise by Pep Guardiola – the Man City boss highlighted his searing pace after an FA Cup meeting in the spring – Bell scored six goals and set up three more in 2022/23 from the same left-wing role Kent made his own at Ibrox.
