Club want to sign Celtic player to replace star

Celtic Defender Osaze Urhoghide is on the radar of Amiens, who are looking for a new defender after Formose Mendy joined FC Lorient this summer.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say Amiens have ‘set their sights’ on Urhoghide after Mendy’s departure.

They are in need of a new defender and the Celtic man is the one they want to replace the 22-year-old.

Urhoghide has just come back to Celtic Park from a loan spell at KV Oostende, where he has been since January 2022.

He moved to the Belgian side on loan in the January transfer window that year and stayed there for another season last summer.

He was a regular for them last season, playing 27 times in the Jupiler Pro League and twice in the Croky Cup, but his future at Celtic is unclear.

Brendan Rodgers is still evaluating his squad after his comeback this summer and has to make choices in central defence, where Urhoghide is one of six central defenders in Celtic’s squad.

With Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Stafelt, Stephen Walsh, Yuki Kobayashi and Liam Scales also available to Rodgers, there is certainly scope to let Urhoghide go this summer.

Amiens are apparently looking to exploit that as they search for a new defender for Mendy in the next few weeks.
