Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that Fabio Vieira is set to be out of action for the rest of 2023.
Vieira missed Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Brentford due to suspension, but fans are unlikely to see him Star again for the side until the New Year.
The Portuguese midfielder was absent from training ahead of the Gunners’ Champions League clash against Lens on Wednesday night.
Speaking on Vieira’s absence and Arteta was not able to offer good news on his fitness.
“Yeah we’ve got a problem with him,” the Spaniard was quoted by talkSPORT during his press conference on Tuesday. “He’s been having some discomfort.
“We tried to have some conservative treatment with him.”
“It wasn’t improving so we sent him to see a specialist and the advice was to have an operation in his groin.
“We did that yesterday. We expect him to be out for weeks now. We don’t expect him to do that [return before January].
“Let’s see how he evolves. The job it was done yesterday so we’ll have to wait and see. It will take weeks I think.”
Vieira is currently in his second season at Arsenal since signing from Porto last summer, and has already made 14 appearances this season.
