Guardiola Hails Man City Win Over Brighton

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has praised his squad following the 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, October 21 at the Etihad Stadium.

Argentine striker Julian Alvarez and Norwegian striker Erling Haaland put City 2-0 up in the first half.

Ansu Fati pulled one back for Brighton in the 73rd minute.

Prior to the match City had been defeated by Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League and Newcastle United in the EFL Cup.

Speaking in the press conference, Guardiola said it was an important performance by the Cityzens.

"Against Brighton for 95 minutes, controlling them is impossible," mancity.com quoted Guardiola as saying.

"No team in the world can do that. I am surprised we did that for 55/60 minutes. They link with the strikers and we went man to man with Julian (Alvarez) and Erling (Haaland). After they contact with the wingers especially on the left side for Josko (Gvardiol) and Jeremy (Doku) we could attack in that space in the first half.

"In the second half they close that space with Fati coming on and Kaoru (Mitoma) moving inside. (Kaoru) Mitoma is an exceptional player and (Ansu) Fati in the small spaces has pace.

"After defeats it was an important performance. The credits I give to Roberto (De Zerbi) because you see the games they play against other teams, they are really good. They have a lot of injuries at the moment. I give credit to the team for victory."

Haaland ended a run of three matches without a goal with his strike against Brighton.

With the win over Brighton and Hove Albion the Cityzens have set a record for the most consecutive home wins in the Premier League era with 21.

Manchester City are currently first in the Premier League standings with 21 points from nine matches.

They play Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League next on Wednesday, October 25 at the Wankdorf Stadium.

They top the Group G standings of the Champions League with six points after matchday two.

Their next Premier League clash is derby game against Manchester United on Sunday, October 29 at Old Trafford.
