AC Milan dominated the game with eight attempts to one, but Nick Pope saves and wasteful finishing saw their Champions League group start with a disappointing draw.

The Rooseneri also lost Reuben Loftus-Cheek and goalkeeper Mike Maignan to injury in the game.

Stefano Pioli's side will travel away to Borussia Dortmund for their next game on Wednesday, October 4.

Newcastle United will entertain Paris Saint-Germain at the Saint James' Park same day.
