IRONMAN has announced the newest addition to the Ironman 70.3 Oceania triathlon calendar based in the Australian island state of Tasmania.
The inaugural IRONMAN® 70.3® Tasmania triathlon is set to be held on Sunday 5 February 2023, with athletes from across Australia and around the world to make their way to Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania.
Athletes will not only breathe in all the stunning region has to offer, but also take on a spectacular and challenging course in and around the historic city of Hobart. Tasmania features breathtakingly wild landscapes, untamed and seemingly purpose built for adventure. Tasmania provides the opportunity to reconnect with nature in the morning, critique the latest in modern art in the afternoon and have your choice of world-class dining options in the evening.

The IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania triathlon will offer a 1.9km (1.2-mile) swim course in the Derwent River that hugs the historic Battery Point before embarking on a 90km (56-mile) ride with the most vertical gain of any IRONAMN 70.3 bike course in Oceania. The 21.1km (13.1-mile) run will allow athletes to enjoy some of the best scenery in and around Hobart, with the world-famous IRONMAN 70.3 finish line to be alongside Princes Wharf.
IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania will also see some of the world’s best triathletes alongside more than 1,000 athletes, with the event to feature a male and female professional race. Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said the triathlon would deliver around $2 million in economic benefits to Tasmania every year of the five-year agreement.

Geoff Meyer, Managing Director of Oceania for The IRONMAN Group, said that the organisation was excited to bring IRONMAN 70.3 racing to Tasmania.
“We can’t wait to see athletes hit the start line in Hobart next February for the first ever IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania,” said Meyer. “Our team has been working hard to develop a course that will show off the region and provide an incredible racing experience for the more than 1,000 athletes who will take part.
“Tasmania is a bucket list destination for people from around the world and we’re thrilled to be in the position to show off the region to triathletes, their friends and families, as they come to race, stay and play,” he said.
“IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania will be a unique event in our portfolio, it will include the first indoor transition in the region at Princes Wharf and is also set to be the southernmost IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon event in the world. A unique destination demands a unique course and that’s what this event will deliver.”
Entries for IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania will open on 31 March 2022 on the website
