Dentist Gives The Thumbs Up to JoyMix’s Pea Protein

Completing a marathon is not an easy feat, but mustering his medical peers to complete a sub-4 marathon (and potentially a sub-3 marathon in the future) is no easy feat. This is a part of his motive to promote work-life balance within the medical industry. 27-year-old Muhammad Noor Idham bin Ibrahim, a dental officer in Klinik Pergigian Cheng in Melaka believes that the profession should not be an excuse to be a successful athlete.

ToughASIA spoke to him to find out more.

ToughASIA: When did you start running and what made you interested in running?
Noor Idham: It all began in primary school when I took part in the various sprinting events such as the 100m, 200m, 4x100m and 110m sprint. It made me realise that running was the only sport I was good at. There are many running groups that have motivated me to run and the bond we have created during our training is the thing that made it interesting for me.

ToughASIA: Do you run alone or in a group?
Noor Idham: During the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, I usually run alone. But sometimes, I will have my wife and my running partner to accompany my training.

ToughASIA: Where do you usually train?
Noor Idham: Regularly, at Tasik Satu Krubong which has a flat surface and a 1.5km loop.

ToughASIA: What are your regular running gears and accessories?
Noor Idham: Brooks / Prime attire alongside my favourite shoes, Hyperion Tempo and GTS Adrenaline 20, as well as COROS APEX 42mm.

ToughASIA: How do you manage your diet during the lockdown?
Noor Idham: I do not have a specific diet, but the most important thing for me is to eat on time. Let’s say if I am planning for a 5:30pm run, I will make sure that I have my lunch before 2:00pm.

ToughASIA: With some movement restrictions still happening, what are your recommended routines for those who would like to work out at home?
Noor Idham: If you are at home and have a staircase, take advantage of it by doing some stairs training. If not, then opt for HIIT exercises as it only needs a limited space.

ToughASIA: Have you registered for any virtual races this year?
Noor Idham: I have registered for the Prime Trail Blazer Virtual (20km) and the MCO Merdeka Virtual Run (150km)

ToughASIA: What are some of your proudest achievements?
Noor Idham: I have completed 10 full marathons with varying outcomes. My personal best for a full marathon is 3:57 at the Penang Bridge international Marathon 2018 and another personal best of 1:39 at the Twincity Marathon 2020.

ToughASIA: As a medical practitioner, what are some of your advice for those who would like to workout outdoors?
Noor Idham: Stay fit, stay healthy and and continue to do what you love most. But always adhere to the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) and get yourself vaccinated.

ToughASIA: Recently, you have also tried the joyMix Pea Protein. Can you tell us a little about it?
Noor Idham: I consumed it twice a day. A scoop in the morning and another scoop 30 minutes after my run. I absolutely felt the difference after a week of consuming the product continuously. I feel less soreness and I can thereafter, I can continue to train better.

ToughASIA: Has the product improved your performance over the course of the two weeks?
Noor Idham: Yes, significantly. It has been a while since I last ran my 10km in under 50 minutes. The last time I had this achievement was in November 2020. The Joymix Pea Protein has helped me to recover faster, and after the second week, I managed to run with an average of pace 5 for 10km with minor soreness in my calves. The outcome of the run was unbelievable.

ToughASIA: What does the Joymix Pea Protein taste like?
Noor Idham: It has a mild taste of pea. While the powder clumps up easily when mixed with cold water or room temperature water, I found out that by mixing it with some condensed milk, it makes it easier to shake without clumping.

ToughASIA: Will you recommend this product to your family and friends?
Noor Idham: Yes, absolutely!
