USADA Confirms There Will Be Standard Testing Procedures Leading Up To UFC 249

There are many unknowns to the general public with regards to the upcoming UFC events being held in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

One of those unknowns is whether Usada will be able to complete their jobs as effectively as they have for previous events whilst keep socially distanced from the athletes and following the correct government guidelines. Further to that, would there have been cutbacks made by USADA to lower costs during the pandemic as most businesses have?

Well, according to USADA officials, testing procedures will be as effective as normal with the only difference being the precautions put in place to ensure the health and safety of the USADA official and the athlete being tested. A USADA official spoke to MMA Fighting and told them that the necessary precautions are being taken.

“As we’ve stated, testing at UFC events is an essential part of a fair fight. We will have doping control officers at UFC 249, and will do everything in our power to conduct testing at future events, of course taking appropriate precautions to protect the health and safety of everyone involved.”

UFC 249 takes place on May 9th with Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Gaethje in the main event for the interim lightweight title. Other fights on the card include Henry Cejudo vs. Dominick Cruz in the co-main event and Francis Ngannou vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik in a three-round heavyweight clash.
