Former UFC Welterweight Champion, Pat Miletich Set For Comeback Fight

The very first Ufc Welterweight Champion, Pat Miletich, is set to make a return to combat sports at the age of 52.

Miletich’s long-time manager, Monte Cox, spoke to Bruce Buffer on the “IT’S TIME with Bruce Buffer” podcast and revealed the plans for Miletich to return in a kickboxing bout against former boxing world champion Michael Nunn.

“You’ve probably heard rumours of this, but Pat Miletich is going to fight again and he’s fighting Michael Nunn, a great boxer. It’s an incredible [fight]. This thing will draw. We could draw 7,000-plus in the Quad Cities. They’re the two greatest professional athletes or fighters out of that area.”

Miletich has been out of active competition since 2008 but, even then, he only competed twice between 2002 and 2008. Miletich amassed a 29-7-2 record across his MMA career becoming the very first UFC welterweight champion along the way and fought against the likes of Renzo Gracie, Carlos Newton, John Alessio and Andre Pederneiras.

Miletich’s opponent, Michael Nunn, is a former two-weight world champion in boxing holding the IBF middleweight title and the WBA super middleweight title between the late 1980’s to the middle of the 1990’s. Nunn has been out of competition since 2002 and has been recently released from prison when he was convicted for the conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Cox spoke in more detail about what happened on the podcast as well.

“Michael has been in prison, so he just got out six months ago. It was a cocaine thing. The feds set him up to buy a kilo of cocaine for 100 bucks. It’s just ridiculous… It was entrapment at its best. But anyway, what he did when he went to prison was, he took all the people who came in overweight and didn’t know about nutrition and taught them how to get back in shape, eat right, and put them through workouts and stuff. He really did good.

And he’s a good guy. I know him really well. I travelled with him all over the world when he was fighting. At one time, he was pound-for-pound the best boxer in the world: 35-0. He was untouchable.”

Nunn was a highly regarded boxer in his time racking up a 36-0 record before his first loss to boxing great James Toney by 11th round TKO. The loss to Toney remains the only stoppage loss on the 57-year-olds boxing record which currently stands at 58-4. There is no official date for the kickboxing bout between the two fighters yet as it’s likely the COVID-19 pandemic has interfered with any planned date Cox may have already had for the fight.
