6 games on tap today including the first elimination game of the 2020 Playoffs and the Canucks looking to get back in their series against the Wild.

6 games Monday and another 6 today in Day 4 of the NHL’s Play-in Tournament. We’ll go over today’s games, but first let’s recap last night’s action:

CAROLINA HURRICANES 4 NEW YORK RANGERS 2 (Carolina leads series 2-0)

Andrei Svechnikov recorded the first hat trick of this year’s playoffs, as the Hurricanes beat the Rangers 4-1. They’re now one win away from advancing to the next round, which could be as early tonight as these teams face off in Toronto at 5:00pm PDT. Sebastian Aho had 3 assists, all of them on Svechnikov’s goals, and the Rangers lone goal was from Artemi Panerin.

WINNIPEG JETS 3 CALGARY FLAMES 2 (Series tied 1-1)

Gotta hand it to the Winnipeg Jets for a gutsy performance after losing Mark Schiefele and Patrik Laine in their Game One loss to the Flames. The Jets got goals from Jansen Harkins, Adam Lowry and the game winner from Nikolaj Ehlers to tie that series 1-1. The Flames got goals from Elias Lindholm and Sam Bennett as they battled back to tie it in the 2nd after falling behind 2-0. Game 3 goes tonight in Edmonton.

TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING 3 WASHINGTON CAPITALS 2 (SO)

Gary Bettman’s dream came true last night, as we saw the first ever shootout in a post-season NHL game. Nikita Kucherov opened the scoring, and then had the SO winner for the Bolts, who were backstopped by a 31 save performance from Andrei Vasilevskiy.

VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS 5 DALLAS STARS 3

The Dallas Stars felt they should have had more to show than being down 1-0 after the first period in this one, and came out firing in the second, scoring three times in just under 5 minutes on goals from Joe Pavelski, Jamie Oleksiak and Corey Perry. Vegas proved they had a better hand in the third, as they replied with goals from Mark Stone, Nate Schmidt, William Carrier and William Karlsson to take this one 5-3 in Round Robin action.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS 3 MONTREAL CANADIENS 1 (Series tied 1-1)

2 point nights from Jake Guentzel and Connor Sheary paced the Penguins to a 3-1 win to even this series at one game a piece. Sidney Crosby scored his 2nd of the playoffs, as did Montreal’s Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Carey Price had another strong outing, but is gonna need some support if they hope to pull off the upset.

EDMONTON OILERS 6 CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS 3 (Series tied 1-1)

The Blackhawks tried their best to hang in this one, but Connor McDavid’s hat trick goal was the winner as they tied this series at one game a piece. Kirby Dach had 2 assists and Slater Koekkoek had 1 and 1 for the Hawks. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set up the 3 McDavid goals, giving him 5 points so far in the 2 games they’ve played.

TODAY’S GAMES:

FLORIDA PANTHERS vs NEW YORK ISLANDERS 9am PDT- Sportsnet (Islanders lead series 1-0)

The first game of the day sees the Panthers trying to battle back after dropping the opener in a close, one goal loss to the Islanders.

ARIZONA COYOTES vs NASHVILLE PREDATORS 11:30am PDT- SN1, SN360 (Arizona leads series 1-0)

Nashville had their hands full with a pesky Coyotes team that’s looking for an upset. Are changes coming in Nashville if they bow out in the Play-in Round?

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS vs TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS - 1pm PDT- Sportsnet (Columbus leads series 1-0)

The Leafs will look to try and find ways to break through the dominant defence of the Blue Jackets after getting shut out in game one.

WINNIPEG JETS vs CALGARY FLAMES- 3:45pm PDT- Sportsnet (Series tied 1-1)

Can the Jets seize the momentum following an emotional Game One win, or will the Flames try and get back to what worked in Game One? This one’s gonna be another hard fought, physical contest between two teams developing a seriosu dislike for each other.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS vs MINNESOTA WILD 7:45pm PDT- Sportsnet (Minnesota leads series 1-0)

The Canucks will be shuffling things in the bottom six as Travis Green tries to find a combination that can break through a smothering Minnesota defence. Let’s hope the officials remember that they can make calls on the Wild tonight, that seems to have been missed in that 3-0 shutout loss in the opener.
