Alex Burrows Ring of Honour Night in the ROG. Nucks Respond

It’s official. Alex helps the Canucks just being in the rink.

He and his Burrows army.

Ring of Honour Night in the ROG. For AMFB. The Dragon Slayer.

Alex is in the ROG, the Nucks are too. Not Saturday’s HNIC Nucks. Loui was rumoured to be traded. Today. To Ottawa. The internet, always toying with us.

Oh well... Roos returns for his 1st game in 6 months. The ROG is buzzing and it’s about to get loud...

1st Period

Just a couple minutes in and Rousell on his first shift, his first shot, scores the 1st goal of the game! Woooo!!!

Nice steal by Gaud and double backhands means double points!

Turns out the double points thing was just a coffee marketing thing.

No matter. For the first time at home in too long, the Nucks are leading 1-0 in the first.

It’s a night of firsts in the ROG. But first... moar goals!

It’s Pearson from Tanev from Logan Brown. Even the Sens want us to enjoy AMFB night in the ROG. For now.

It’s a 2-0 Lead at home! It’s a beautiful game.

And made more beautiful when the league’s top power-play goes for the beauty. Brock to cheeky Pete, making it look a little too easy. It’s an Alien thing. 98 points in 100 games for Elias.

Yay! The Nucks have a 3 goal lead in the first! We win. 3 goal leads are the safest lead in Nucks hockey.

But, just in case... why not another first. For Zack MacEwen. His first NHL goal. And a perfect tip from Benn.

4-0 Canucks. In only the first period.

Vancouver under shoots the Sens 15-16. But the 4 goals on 15 ends our former Nillise’s night.

2nd Period

With a new stingier goalie in for the Sens and a looser defensive Nucks strategy at play, it’s on Demko to preserve the shutout. And he does. For most of the period. Stopped a sure breakaway goal. Saved many shots in close.

But he can’t be expected to save the 2nd or 3rd all the time, can he? Maybe. Some in the game thread wondered out in type if the Nucks want Dem to get a shutout later rather than sooner.

... was the casual Tuesday in the D-zone that did it. UNLESS…. they don’t want Dem to get the shuttie too soon in the season - jimmi

Maybe it was only me with that theory - besides I was busy stopping the SO jinx shots - everything happens so fast in the modern game thread.

The Sens get a late power play (on a weak call... because... refs). Fortunately, the period ended just in time to ensure the 3 goal lead for the team of Burrows.

Shots 12-6 for Ottawa. And only goal of the period. It’s a 3 goal lead heading into the 3rd.

3rd Period

The Sens continue their power play to start the period. Weird. 2 minute penalty that takes over 15 minutes to expire.

And of course the Sens score just seconds after the power play ends. At least we don’t have to worry about the 3 goal lead anymore. Even if the game thread was obsessing over it.

And lucky for those OCD number munchers, we get another first. Fantenberg’s 1st NHL goal!

3 goal lead restored. Game thread, the ROG, possibly the universe is ecstatic.

5-2 Nucks.

Woooo!

Dreaded 3 goal lead restored - jimmi

For 45 seconds. Then the Sens score off the rush.

Oh FFS!!! - Not dreaded long enough - jimmi

— Just stop it, Jimmi - That’s 2 goals now. Maybe…. you’re hanging by a thread - ‘82

Thanks to the astute Nucks video coach, Green challenges the play on the offside. And wins!!!

no worries - The dread is restored. Offside challenge - jimmi

Everyone in the game thread is loving those coach’s challenges, not the challenge of coaching, that’s a different subject that NM Prime Directive must not broach or the beatings will continue.

Anyhow, Zan isn’t happy with the new nanny-state NHL rules.

Why do they get to challenge this

Jesus

But hey it worked for us!

Zanstorm99

Not only did it work for us, it worked on frustrating the Sens. They got the penultimate tieing goal and then had it taken away from video replay.

Yay!

We win! 5-2. It’s a one-game home win streak!

Sens outshoot the Honour Ringers 14-8 and 42-29 on the game. Welcome back Dem to the .952 SV% club. We missed you.

And welcome back, Roos! We really missed you. More than we knew.

Here’s the 2 Johns to make us happy all other again.

Thanks, Alex. You helped us. Again. And now... pretty much forever. Want to confirm, you’ll be in the ROG rafters for every home game this season.
