An All Star performance from The Flow gives us all something to cheer about

Boeser wins ASG MVP, NBD- While it may have truly been Brock Boeser’s coming out party this weekend, the legion of Canucks fans that helped him win the fan voting to get the nod for the MVP of Sunday’s All Star Game in Tampa would like to welcome you to our little party. Better late than never, right? After taking Saturday’s shooting accuracy in the Skills Competition (and let’s be honest, has this kid not been dying to get a chance at this event?), he went on to score twice, including the GWG in the deciding match against the Atlantic Division. And just for good measure, he was named the NHL’s First Star of the week, the first for a Canucks player in 3 years. And while we’re on the topic of awards, here’s another bit of Canucks news that bodes well for the future:

Tanev Watch: And after all of the feel-goodness of the weekend, we return to the reality of life with the Canucks right now, and part of that involves just how much longer Chris Tanev is going to remain a Vancouver Canuck. With the red-hot Winnipeg Jets (yeah, we know that looks weird) suffering a huge blow with an injury to Jacob Trouba that could see him miss up to 8 weeks, the Jets are going to be looking for someone to step in, and maybe Tanev is that guy? With the pressure starting to mount on the Canucks to make some kind of a deal for Eric Gudbranson, Tanev, who has been their best defenceman for a while now, is the one most likely to garner assets. With the Jets (and yes, the Maple Leafs, no matter how much their fans want to deny it) needing to bolster their D for the post season, a guy like Tanev would be a huge addition. And take my advice, don’t go looking at Jets fans thoughts on the TanMan, because if you thought Leafs fans had ridiculously bad takes on his abilities, Winnipeg is worse.

AROUND THE NHL

Is This The End For Jaromir Jagr? It wasn’t that long ago where it was a semi-serious discussion as to whether Jaromir Jagr could catch Wayne Gretzky as the NHL’s all time scoring leader simply because the guy seemed like he could play forever. Well, the Calgary Flames ruined that for everyone, and today the future Hall Of Famer cleared waivers. He will report to HC Kladno of the Czech league (a team he co-owns) where he will likely play out the rest of his career. Shame I never got to see him play live.
