Alcaraz withdraws from Rome

Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Italian Open in Rome, scheduled for next week, citing increased forearm discomfort.

The injury kept the Spaniard out of the first two major European clay-court tournaments in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona, but he returned to compete for a third straight victory at the Madrid Open.

With less than a month until the French Open begins, Alcaraz has confessed that his right arm is still a problem after losing to Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals.

Alcaraz wrote on social media: “I felt some pain after playing in Madrid, some discomfort in my arm. Today I did some tests and I have a muscle edema in my pronator teres, a consequence of my recent injury. Unfortunately, I will not be able to play in Rome. I need to rest so I can recover and play 100% pain-free. I am very sorry. I will see you next year.”
