Andy Murray has stated that he will be sidelined for an extended period after suffering an ankle injury during the Miami Open.
After the incident occurred late in the third set of his thrilling 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) loss to Tomas Machac on Sunday, the 36-year-old player requested medical attention.
He was verified to have sustained a near-full-thickness rupture of the calcaneofibular ligament and a complete rupture of the Anterior Talofibular Ligament.
Murray shared this news on his Instagram account with the caption: “Yesterday, towards the end of my match in Miami, I suffered a full rupture of my ATFL and a near-full thickness rupture of my CFL. I will see an ankle specialist when I return home to determine the next steps. This is a tough one to take and I’ll be out for an extended period. But I’ll be back with 1 hip and no ankle ligaments when the time is right.”
