Leylah Fernandez believes she and Emma Raducanu can return to Grand Slam glory

In a recent interview, newly crowned Hong Kong Tennis Open champion, Leylah Fernandez, expressed her optimism that both she and her fellow young tennis sensation, Emma Raducanu, can make their way back to the highest levels of the sport and once again challenge for grand slam titles. Fernandez and Raducanu, both of Asian heritage, captured the world’s attention with their incredible performances in the 2021 US Open, where they reached the final.

Fernandez’s journey to the Hong Kong Tennis Open championship marked a remarkable comeback after facing numerous ups and downs, which saw her ranking drop to 60th in the world. Similarly, Raducanu, who became the first qualifier to win a grand slam, has faced challenges, with her current ranking at 282nd in the world.

Fernandez acknowledged the difficulties of adjusting to life after their breakthroughs but commended Raducanu’s hard work and determination. She firmly believes that Raducanu has the potential to return to her exceptional form, which would be beneficial for women’s tennis and the WTA.

With her recent victory in Hong Kong, Fernandez is determined to use this as a springboard for the upcoming season and aims to win a grand slam every year. Her main focus remains on staying humble, grounded, and continuing to work hard in pursuit of her goals.

While Fernandez celebrated her victory, her thoughts also turned to her father, who couldn’t be there to witness the momentous occasion. Nevertheless, she expressed her gratitude for his support and acknowledged that she used his guidance and wisdom to secure her triumph.

In the world of women’s tennis, Leylah Fernandez and Emma Raducanu’s future remains a compelling narrative, and tennis fans are eagerly anticipating their return to the grand slam stage.
