But Doncic deserves a ton of credit for helping his team to bounce back from last year’s embarrassing failure to make the playoffs, as the Mavs are in the postseason this year.

At this stage of the season, there are no other serious contenders to win the NBA MVP award. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jalen Brunson, and Jayson Tatum are the only other players in any sort of consideration. We were big believers in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to come away with the MVP award this season. But he has fallen off toward the end of the year, while Doncic has not done nearly enough to justify serious consideration given how far back the Mavs are in the race for the top spot in the Western Conference. Jokic is set to win his third MVP award, to make up for the travesty that was last year’s voting.
