Offseason Transactions
Key Additions: Marcus Smart
Key Departures: Dillon Brooks
The roster for the Memphis Grizzlies is largely the same as it was last year, with one notable exception. Dillon Brooks is gone, as the controversial wing has been replaced by Marcus Smart, who will take over point guard duties while Ja Morant is suspended. Derrick Rose is also here in Memphis after he was essentially removed from the rotation for the Knicks a season ago. Smart will provide a defensive edge to make up for the loss of Brooks, but this team shouldn’t see much of a drop-off thanks to their offseason moves.
Positives & Negatives
The biggest positive for the Grizzlies this season is that they managed to keep their top producers on their roster going into this season. They paid Desmond Bane, who is one of the most underrated players in the NBA today. And adding Smart to a roster that has a ton of grit already will make this team a tough out in the playoffs.
However, the Grizzlies are going to be without their All-Star Ja Morant for an extended period of time this season due to his erratic off-court behavior. That could cost the Grizzlies some valuable regular season games that could negatively impact their seeding this season, which could prevent them from realizing their full potential.
2023-24 Memphis Grizzlies Win Total Prediction: Under 45.5 Wins
This Grizzlies team is a dangerous one when they are all together on the court. But they will not be all together on the court for a large portion of this season, thanks to the Morant suspension. They will still be a playoff team, but the Grizzlies will fall just short of their season win total of 45.5, which will make things so much tougher on them when the playoffs roll around.
