2022 Subway Series: Yankees fans upset since they have to watch Mets broadcast

The New York Yankees fans have been reported to be upset due to the 2022 Subway Series game against the New York Mets on Tuesday not being broadcasted on YES Network.

The game is set to be streamed in-market on the Amazon platform, which is reported to come as part of a $139 per year Prime service. Meanwhile, Mets fans were still able to see Game 2 of the Subway Series on SNY or TBS. As a result, most Yankees Fans have considered turning to Mets broadcast to watch their home team, which appears to be an unpopular opinion.

“I guess most of #Yankees fans will be watching the Mets broadcast since the Yankees are on Amazon prime,” one fan tweeted.

The Prime-exclusive games have been around for some time with Amazon having an ownership stake in YES. This is also not the only time fans have been disappointed with the game being limited to streaming services. On April 22, Amazon claimed the rights to broadcast the game between the Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians.

Tuesday’s game is one of the programs scheduled to be streamed in-market on Amazon, which is a part of a $139 per year Prime service.

Losing interest

The New York Post contributor Jon Heyman said that being a Yankees fan was rewarding and carried minimal risk since the team never had a losing record and missed the playoffs. Some of them, however, have started to show disinterest in the team.

As of late, few fans have stopped watching their games since they are not used to the incompetence the team has shown. However, Heyman said that they would likely return to supporting the team once the playoffs start.

Many Yankees fans still go to the games. Heyman said several fans who went to see Paul O’Neill’s No. 21 jersey being retired expressed displeasure when the Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner and VP Brian Cashman stepped onto the field to present O’Neill with a framed replica of his Monument Park plaque and pinstriped number. O’Neill was dubbed “The Warrior” by late Yankees owner and Steinbrenner’s father George Steinbrenner.

Lately, Yankees fans have directed their displeasure towards Cashman and general manager Aaron Boone and made them the reason the team struggled. Regardless, Cashman said he still trusted his team before playing against the Mets, where they won 4-2.

“The group has my belief,” Cashman said. “I believe strongly in them and I think they are still capable of everything we’ve ever hoped and dreamed, but we have to weather the storm first and foremost.”

Fans’ concern

According to Heyman, the Yankees have never had a losing rookie record since the Mets manager Buck Showalter was still a rookie manager in 1992. They also hadn’t lost six-game series straight since Showalter’s last year in pinstripes.

The Yankees started 61-23, had a 122-win pace, and went on to 13-25 in the next 38 games. They are currently still on a pace to win 98 games. They played at a .342 clip for nearly a quarter of the season. Heyman said there have been some great collapses and some fans have raised some concern, particularly regarding Boone.

“I’m concerned,” Yankees fan Eric Ritzer said. “Tonight and tomorrow are going to be telling. They’re not playing well. If they don’t win Aaron Boone will be gone.”

Many Yankees fans are still expecting that their team could go all the way to grab their 28th World Series title this season. One fan, Skyler Marvin shared his thought on Boone.

“If Boone doesn’t win it or get to the World Series, I think he’ll be fired,” Marvin said, as per NY Post.

“I’m a realist. They don’t have it right now. It doesn’t look good, for sure. It reminds me of the 2007 Mets. … I think it’ll be Astros and Mets. It’s time for Buck to get a ring. Tell Mark DeRosa, New Jersey guy. That’s the guy we want here.”
