Toronto Raptors vs. Golden State Warriors Odds, Pick, Prediction 1/10/21

The Toronto Raptors continue their west-coast journey Sunday night in San Francisco, so I bring you the best betting pick for their interconference clash against the Golden State Warriors along with the latest odds update on DraftKings Sportsbook.

The Raptors have struggled mightily through the first three weeks, already tallying a couple of three-game losing streaks. On the other side, the Warriors are doing a solid job considering all their injury woes.

Klay Thompson (Achilles) and Marquese Chriss (leg) are done for the season, while both Andrew Wiggins (quad) and Kevon Looney (hip) are questionable to play against Toronto. The Raptors will miss Patrick McCaw (knee), but his absence won’t hurt Toronto’s rotation.

Toronto exploded in Sacramento, snapping a three-game skid

The Toronto Raptors (2-6; 2-6 ATS) finally put on a strong performance, outlasting the Sacramento Kings 144-123 as 1-point road underdogs this past Friday. They found a way to avoid the fourth straight defeat after losing to New Orleans 120-116, Boston 126-114, and Phoenix 123-115.

The Raptors have surprisingly played some lousy defense so far. They allow 111.2 points per 100 possessions (20th in the NBA) on 46.1% shooting from the field (17th) and 38.4% from beyond the arc (21st).

On the other side of the ball, Toronto tallies 109.8 points per 100 possessions (19th). The Raptors shoot only 44.3% from the field (24th), so it’s fair to say that their offense hasn’t impressed either. Fred VanVleet leads the way with 22.3 points and 5.9 assists per game, while Pascal Siakam adds 19.6 points and 7.9 rebounds a night.

Steph Curry continues to shoulder the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors (5-4; 4-5 ATS) are coming off a 115-105 victory over the LA Clippers last Friday. It was the Warriors’ second encounter with the Clippers in just three days, and they bounced back from a 108-101 defeat as 5-point home dogs on Wednesday night.

Steph Curry tortured the Clippers for 38 points on 13-for-24 shooting on Friday. He also had 11 assists, and Curry has scored 30 or more points in three of his last four outings. Steph’s now averaging 30.6 points and 6.8 assists per game, while Andrew Wiggins has 17.6 points and 4.9 boards per contest.

The Warriors rank 20th in the league in points scored per 100 possessions (108.7). They shoot 44.6% from the field (23rd) and 36.1% from downtown (tied-17th). Golden State allows 111.8 points in a return (22nd) on 45.0% shooting from the field (10th) and 40.2% from beyond the 3-point line (29th).

Trends:

Toronto:

  • 9-5-1 ATS in the last 15 games against Golden State
  • 9-3-2 ATS in the last 14 road games against Pacific Division

Golden State:

  • 1-5 ATS in the last six games played on Sunday
  • 1-5 ATS in the last six home games against Toronto

The Winner Prediction

The Raptors are undefeated in five consecutive road games against the Warriors, and I expect this trend to continue Sunday at Chase Center. That thrashing off the Kings should have been a massive boost for the struggling Raptors, so I’m looking for another strong performance when they visit Golden State.

Both teams have had some serious defensive issues thus far, and the Raptors arguably have much more defensive talent on their roster than the Dubs. Therefore, I’m backing the visitors to cover, though the spread is a paltry one at 1.5 points.

Pick: Take Toronto +1.5 at -110

The Total:

The Warriors play at the second-fastest pace in the league, recording a whopping 105.4 possessions per 48 minutes. On the other side, the Raptors are 10th with 101.9 possessions per 48 minutes, so we should see an up-tempo clash between two teams that have struggled mightily on the defensive end.

Hereof, betting on the over seems like the logical move. The Raptors’ last four games went in the over, as well as their previous five encounters with the Pacific Division. Also, the over is 6-3-1 in the last ten meetings between Toronto and Golden State.

Pick: Go over 229.5 points at -110
